How much sound deadening material do I need for my project?
It depends on the area you want to treat; our butyl mats come in multi-sheet packs and roll sizes covering different square-metre amounts, listed in each product. For doors alone a smaller 12 or 24-piece pack often does the job, while full-floor or boot treatments call for larger packs or coverage rolls. Measure your panels first, then choose a pack that comfortably covers the surface with a little to spare.
What is the difference between butyl deadener and foam insulation?
Butyl self-adhesive mats add mass to panels to reduce vibration, rattles and road drumming, making them ideal for doors, floors and boots. Closed-cell foam and reflective insulation target heat and higher-frequency noise, and suit areas like the engine bay bonnet and firewall. Many builders use butyl first for vibration control, then add a foam layer over the top for heat and noise.
How do I install self-adhesive sound deadener?
Clean and dry the panel thoroughly so the adhesive bonds well, then cut the mat to size, peel the backing and press it firmly into place. Rolling the sheet with an application roller, like the ones we stock, works out air pockets and helps the butyl key onto the metal. Work in overlapping sections and press the edges down well for the best long-term hold.
Will these products help with heat as well as noise?
Yes, our butyl mats and foam products are designed to reduce both vibration noise and heat transfer, which is why they suit floors, firewalls and engine bays. Reflective insulation rolls add a radiant barrier that helps keep cabin temperatures more comfortable. Combining a mass layer with a foam or reflective layer gives you the most effect against both heat and sound.
Do you stock door and window seals to cut wind and outside noise?
Yes, alongside deadening mats we carry self-adhesive rubber weather strips and D-profile seals in various lengths to close gaps around doors, windows and sunroofs. Sealing these gaps helps reduce wind whistle, dust and outside noise entering the cabin. Clean the surface before applying, then press the strip firmly along the edge so it forms a consistent seal.
