Recovery gear is only useful if it is all in one bag when the car stops moving. This X-BULL kit puts the kinetic rope, a snatch strap, two soft shackles, a winch dampener and heavy gloves into a single 8.25 kg carry bag that lives in the boot rather than scattered through three different toolboxes.
How a kinetic rope actually recovers a car
A kinetic rope is double-braided nylon, and stretch is the whole mechanism. X-BULL states this rope elongates around 35% of its length under load. The recovery vehicle rolls forward, the rope stretches and stores elastic energy, and that energy releases into the bogged vehicle as a progressive pull rather than a jolt. The eyes are dipped in a thick rubber coating, because the eye is the part that drags through sand and gravel and wears out first. The rope itself carries a polymer coating against UV, water and abrasion.
Every number here is a breaking strength
X-BULL quotes 34,000 lb for the 7/8 in x 30 ft kinetic rope, 34,000 lb for each 3/8 in x 22 in soft shackle, and 30,000 lb for the 3 in x 8 ft strap. All three are breaking strengths, the load at which new gear is expected to fail, not working load limits. No safety factor and no standard is named. Note too that the supplier calls the 3 in strap a trailer strap in one place and a snatch strap in another; those are not interchangeable, so treat it as a tow strap unless you can confirm otherwise.
Key features
- 7/8 in x 30 ft kinetic rope: double-braided nylon with roughly 35% stretch, so the pull builds instead of snapping tight.
- Rubber-dipped eyes: the wear point is protected where the rope meets the ground and the attachment.
- Two soft shackles: Spectra fibre with protective sleeves and heat-shrunk knots.
- Winch dampener included: the one piece of a recovery kit people skip, and the one that keeps a broken line down.
- Heavy-duty gloves and carry bag: hand protection and somewhere for it all to live between trips.

How to use this kit without hurting anyone
- Inspect every piece before each recovery. Cuts, glazing, heavy fuzzing, chemical stains or a damaged eye mean that item is retired, not nursed along.
- Lay the dampener over the rope or strap once it is under tension. That is what it is in the bag for.
- Keep everyone well clear of the line and of the whole arc it would sweep if it or an attachment failed. Nobody stands in line with a kinetic recovery.
- Only a rated recovery point is an acceptable attachment. Never a tow ball, tow bar tongue, bumper bar or any unrated bracket, whatever a recovery video shows.
- Two straps or ropes must never be joined with a shackle. Reeve the eyes together properly instead.
- The figures above are breaking strengths for new gear. Work to the lowest-rated item in the rig, and stop and dig if the vehicle will not move on a reasonable pull.
A workable starting kit for someone building up their touring gear. Read the manual for each item before the day you need it, and get some practice in before you rely on it.
