Not every recovery calls for a big winch. Pulling a dinghy onto a trailer, dragging a quad out of a creek bed or hauling firewood up a bank are jobs for something small enough to sit on a handlebar bracket without upsetting the balance of the machine. The X-BULL 3000 lb is built to that scale.

Rated at 3000 lb on a single line

X-BULL publishes the rating as 3000 lb (1360 kg) rated single line pull, and the basis matters as much as the number. That is the pull with the rope running straight off the drum, not doubled through a block. Behind it sits a 12 V DC 1.5 hp permanent-magnet motor working through a three-stage planetary reduction, which splits the effort across three sets of gears so no single set carries the whole load during a slow, grinding pull. Holding is done by an automatic load-holding mechanical brake, so the drum locks instead of paying out when the switch is released.

Two lead lengths, for two ways of working

Control is wired twice over, and the lengths tell you what each is for. The pendant controller runs on a 3.7 m (12 ft) lead, enough to stand off to the side of a loaded rope and still watch the drum. The handlebar controller uses a shorter 2.4 m (8 ft) lead so it can be mounted within reach of a rider. A wireless remote is included as well. Rope is 5.4 mm synthetic, 9.2 m of it, ending in a quarter-inch clevis hook with a safety clip and a marker tab that shows at a glance how much line is left.

Before you rely on it

• 3000 lb (1360 kg) is the rated single line pull. It is not a lifting rating, and no double-line figure is published, so do not assume a pulley increases it.
• Duty cycle is 5%. X-BULL's stated cycle is 45 seconds at maximum rated load followed by 14 minutes 15 seconds of rest.
• CE is the sole marking X-BULL names for this model, with no Australian approval or test rating alongside it.
• Never use a recovery winch to lift or hold a load above people.
• No IP or water rating is published for this model, so do not treat it as sealed for immersion.
