Water left sitting in a caravan's plumbing over a long layup goes stale, grows biofilm, and inland or at altitude can freeze hard enough to split a fitting. Opening the taps never clears it all, because the low points hold onto it. Blowing the lines through with compressed air does, and this brass adapter is the piece that joins the two systems.
The two threads, and why they matter
One end is a 1/4 inch quick connect plug for an air line. The other is a 3/4 inch garden hose thread, the GHT fitting found on the city water inlet of most vans and campers and on a standard garden tap. Those are the two sizes stated, and they are the thing to verify before ordering, because a van built around a different water inlet will not take a GHT thread without an adapter of its own. Brass throughout, which is the usual choice for a fitting threaded on and off repeatedly and left wet.
The ball valve does the controlling
An inline ball valve sits between the two ends, and it is the reason to choose this version over a bare adapter. Air leaves a compressor at whatever the tank happens to be holding, which is far more than any water system wants to see. The valve allows flow to be opened gradually and shut instantly, so pressure enters the plumbing under your control rather than being dumped into it. Crack it open, let the line settle, open a tap, then feed a little more.
Key features
- 1/4 inch quick connect: plugs straight into a standard air line coupler.
- 3/4 inch GHT thread: matches the garden hose fitting on most van inlets and taps.
- Inline ball valve: feed air in gradually and shut it off in one movement.
- Brass body: the stated material, suited to repeated wet connection.
- Listed uses: caravans, campers, boats, trailers, sprinklers and irrigation lines.

Before you connect it
- No maximum air pressure is stated for this adapter. Setting the compressor's regulator to a pressure your water system can tolerate is your responsibility, so look up the figure from whoever built the caravan or the appliance.
- Over-pressurising plumbing splits fittings, pushes seals out of taps and can damage a water pump or water heater. Start low and open the valve slowly.
- Isolate and drain the water heater and the pump according to their own instructions before blowing any lines through.
- Wear eye protection. Compressed air throws water, grit and debris out of open taps at speed.
