Plenty of aftermarket Android stereos arrive without CarPlay, or with a version that only wakes up once a cable is plugged into the phone. This dongle sits in the head unit's USB port and carries that link over the air, so an iPhone reconnects on its own at each start.

It suits one kind of stereo only

It is built for Android-based car stereos and navigation units on which CarPlay was added later. It will not run on a factory OEM head unit, nor on a screen that already carries the car maker's own CarPlay. It is an aftermarket accessory, not an Apple part, and no Apple certification is claimed.

What an iPhone gets, and what an Android phone does not

Paired to a compatible unit, the supplier lists video calls, Siri voice control, online maps, music playback and AirPlay-style mirroring of the phone screen onto the dash. Output is matched to 800 x 480 and 1024 x 600 panels, the two resolutions most budget Android units use. Android phones are treated differently: screen casting only.
