Getting an honest reading

• Measure several grooves across each tyre — inner and outer edges wear at different rates, and that difference tells you as much as the depth.
• Check your handbook or a tyre fitter for the wear limits that apply to your tyres.

Keep one in the glovebox and the tyre check becomes something you do, not something you mean to.
