Clearance is the whole problem with a floor jack. Too tall at rest and it will not go under a lowered ute; too short at full stroke and a 4WD never leaves the ground. The T-Rex TFJ-30 works between 110 mm and 505 mm, and a dual-piston pump gets it through that range in fewer strokes than a single ram.

A jack lifts, stands hold

This is worth being blunt about: a trolley jack is a lifting tool, not a support. Hydraulic seals leak, valves creep, and a jack can settle without warning. Raise the vehicle with the TFJ-30, then transfer the weight onto rated axle stands set on firm level ground before any part of you goes underneath. Chock the wheels still on the ground, and leave the jack in place as a backup carrying no load. The same applies every time, including the quick jobs.

The 3,000 kg number, in context

T-Rex rates the TFJ-30 at a maximum load capacity of 3,000kg. That is the jack's lifting rating at a single point, not the mass of vehicle it can hold up, and no separate rating is quoted for partial extension. A jack under one corner carries only part of a vehicle's weight, so a 3,000 kg rating does not translate into a 3,000 kg vehicle limit — check kerb weight and jacking points against the vehicle handbook. A pressure relief valve is fitted to stop the ram being driven past its designed limit.

Built for a concrete floor

Hardened steel construction, powder coated over the top, and 37 kg on the scales — this is a workshop jack rather than something to keep in the boot. Rear castors swivel, so the jack can be steered around a wheel arch with a foot. The handle comes in two pieces with a knurled grip and a padded upper section that keeps it off your bumper when you are pumping in close quarters, and a removable tray holds the bolts you have just taken out.

Before every lift

• The jack lifts only. Support the vehicle on rated axle stands before anyone goes underneath it, every single time.
• Use the vehicle manufacturer's designated jacking points — the handbook shows where they are.
• Level, solid ground only. Concrete, not gravel, dirt or a sloping driveway.
• Chock the wheels remaining on the ground and apply the park brake before lifting.
• Nobody inside the vehicle while it is raised, and no engine running.
• Lower slowly on the release valve, with the area under and around the vehicle clear.
• Uses SAE10 / ISO32 hydraulic oil. If the lift feels spongy or the jack creeps, stop using it and check the oil and seals.
