The hard part of topping up a gearbox or a diesel tank is rarely the pouring. It is getting a spout to the filler when that filler sits behind a bracket, under a tray or facing the wrong way. This funnel has a bendable neck, so the hose goes where a rigid spout cannot.
A neck that holds the shape you bend it to
The flexible section runs about 37 cm (the supplier quotes 14-9/16 in) and stays where you put it, so the angle gets set once and both hands are then free for the container. It reaches over an airbox, down past a bar into a filler neck, or into the tank opening on a mower. A hook hangs the funnel off a bonnet catch, rather than leaving it balanced on a rocker cover waiting to tip.
Metal instead of a brittle plastic funnel
Plastic funnels go cloudy, crack at the neck and split at the worst moment. This one is metal — the title calls it steel, the supplier description calls it iron — and it survives a toolbox or a ute tray. A strainer sits in the bowl to catch grit before it reaches a sump or a tank, which matters most when decanting from a drum left open in a shed.
Key features
- Bendable hose: about 37 cm of flexible neck for an awkward filler.
- Strainer in the bowl: keeps grit out of the sump or tank.
- Hanging hook: stows on a wall, steadies the funnel during a pour.
- Wide mouth: a 5 1/2 in bowl, about 14 cm.
Specifications
- Funnel diameter: 5 1/2 in (about 14 cm)
- Hose length: 14-9/16 in (about 37 cm)
- Material: steel per the title, iron per the supplier description
- Strainer: included
- Hanging hook: included
- Fluids stated: oils and diesel fuel
- Petrol: not specifically stated by the supplier
Before you pour fuel through it
- Work outdoors or with good ventilation, and keep ignition sources well away. No smoking, no naked flame, no hot work light sitting over the filler.
- A metal funnel can carry static. Keep it touching the filler neck through the pour, and keep the container in contact with it as well.
- The supplier lists oils and diesel. Petrol is not named, so check with the manufacturer before using it for petrol.
- Let a hot engine cool before decanting oil into it, and wipe up spills straight away.
Useful for oil changes, diesel top-ups from a jerry can, and fillers a rigid spout misses.
