A housing 12 by 9.5 by 4 centimetres that fixes to a caravan roof with adhesive and no drilling whatever, taking up to two cables of 2 to 6 mm² through its pair of glands. Sticking rather than screwing is the point of the thing, and on a roof you would sooner not perforate, that is the sensible way round.

Two styles, with nothing given to choose between them

Two variants of this part are on sale, labelled Style A and B, each on its own part number and its own price. What separates the two is stated nowhere. Neither the supplier's own text nor anything printed above it draws a line between them, and the stored dimensions may describe only one of the pair, which means a measurement taken off this page could belong to the variant you did not pick. Worth asking before you order if the distinction matters.

Two sets of dimensions in disagreement

The size appears twice: as 12x9.5x4cm and as 4.5x3.6x1.7 inch. They do not describe the same box. Converting the centimetre figures properly gives roughly 4.72, 3.74 and 1.57 inches, which leaves the first two stored inch numbers short of the metric and the third one over it. Both sets appear above precisely as the supplier stored them, and neither has been silently amended. Work from the centimetres.

The glue, the ratings, and what else is missing

• The adhesive is never named. Installed with glue is the sum total of the installation guidance, with no word on which glue, what surface preparation it needs, or whether any comes in the box. On a roof-mounted part in Australian sun that is the detail everything else depends on.
• Not one line here amounts to a warning. Safety notes, sealing cautions, electrical cautions: none of them appear, and the description's own word safe is offered with nothing whatever behind it.
• The temperature figures are stored in Fahrenheit only, and each uses a single-character degree-Fahrenheit glyph rather than a degree sign followed by an F. We have set them in ordinary characters above and quoted the numbers untouched. In Celsius they work out at -40, 100 and 120 degrees, arithmetic which is ours.
• The temperature line finishes on a closing bracket that never had an opening partner. That fault belongs to the insertion class; it has been neither reproduced above nor filled in by guesswork.
• Waterproof and weatherproof are both claimed, and unusually the description written by the supplier does back the words up. Absent is any IP rating whatever, leaving no measure of how much water, or at what pressure.
• This part carries direct current on a sunlit roof, yet no voltage figure, no current figure and no ultraviolet figure is recorded against it anywhere.
• The stored text holds four separate spacing faults: a space surviving in front of a comma while the one behind it has gone, a full stop with no space after it, a full stop with a space before it, and two colons each preceded by one. The full stop with nothing after it is a plain loss. The space before the other full stop, and the space before each of the two colons, are insertions, characters standing where none belongs. The comma carries one of each, a space inserted ahead of it while the space behind it has gone. None of them survives into the copy above.
• No wind speed accompanies the wind-deflection claim, and no fixing count, pack quantity or colour is given for the housing itself.

For getting solar cable through a caravan or boat roof without reaching for a hole saw this is the right shape of part, sold with a glue it never names and a choice of two styles it never explains.
