A load that shifts on the first roundabout has usually been tied down with the wrong gear — a light-duty strap stretched past its useful travel, or a ratchet whose plastic handle flexed before the webbing was tight. This 6 m ratchet lashing is built the other way around, with 50 mm webbing and an all-metal handle.
Metal where the cheap ones use plastic
The handle and ratchet body carry no plastic parts. That sounds like a small thing until you are leaning on a handle in the rain with cold hands: a plastic grip is the component that cracks, and once it does you cannot tension or release the strap safely. Metal also survives being thrown in a trailer box and driven over. The webbing is 50 mm wide, which spreads the clamping force across a broader footprint on the load, so timber, panels and boxes are less likely to be crushed or scored at the contact line.
Reading the 3000 kg figure
The supplier states a 3000 kg load rating, a safety factor of 1.5, and compliance with DIN EN 12195-2, with the required legal information printed on both the strap label and the ratchet. It does not say whether the 3000 kg is a lashing capacity, a hand-tensioned figure or a breaking strength, so we are not going to translate it into one. The label sewn onto the strap itself is the authoritative document — read it when the strap arrives and work to what it says, not to the marketing figure or the product title.
Key features
- All-metal ratchet: no plastic in the handle, so nothing brittle in the part you apply force to.
- 50 mm webbing: a wide bearing surface that spreads clamping load instead of biting into the cargo.
- 6 m length: long enough to go over and around a trailer load and still reach an anchor point.
- Labelled to a named standard: the supplier cites DIN EN 12195-2 and says the legal information appears on both the strap and the ratchet.
- Tensioner hook end: hooks onto a rail or anchor point without needing a separate connector.

- Ratchet handle: metal, no plastic

Before you tension it
- Work to the sewn label. Where the label and the listing disagree, the label wins. Do not calculate a working figure from the 3000 kg number and the 1.5 factor.
- This is a lashing strap, not a recovery strap. Never use it to snatch, tow or winch a vehicle. Lashings have no controlled stretch and the ratchet becomes a projectile if the webbing lets go.
- Inspect before every use. Retire the strap if the webbing is cut, frayed, chemically stained, heat-glazed or sun-degraded, or if the ratchet pawl no longer locks.
- Keep bystanders clear while tensioning and releasing. Stored tension is released suddenly when the pawl trips.
- Never join two straps with a shackle and never knot the webbing — both destroy the strength of the assembly.
Buy the number of straps the load needs, check the label, and re-check tension after the first few kilometres.
