A head that follows the panel

The brush head swings through 90 degrees on its mount, and can either be locked at a chosen angle or left free to move. Left free, it tracks the contour of a bumper or wheel arch as you draw it along, keeping the chenille pressed to the surface at a steady load rather than pivoting up onto one edge. Locked off, it becomes a fixed flat head for the long straight runs down a door skin or across a roof. Two settings, two quite different jobs, from the one tool.

Comes apart for the fiddly work

Pull the head off the pole and what is left is a chenille hand pad of roughly 27 by 15 centimetres — about the right size for the inside of a windscreen, a dash top, or the door shuts you can only get at with the door swung open. The pole itself sets at 55, 100 and 120 centimetres, so the same handle that reaches a wagon roof shortens to something manageable in a garage with a low ceiling.

Before you use it

• Keep grit out of the pile: rinse the cover before it goes near paint, and after any pass over wheels or sills.
• The supplier asks that the cover be air dried naturally after use to stop mould forming.
