An oil pressure sending unit sits in a spot the factory never expected anyone to revisit: deep against the block, half behind a manifold, with just enough room for a spanner that will not turn. This socket is deep enough to swallow the whole sender and shallow enough in profile to get down beside it.
Deep, because the sender is long
An ordinary socket bottoms out on the top of a sending unit and grips nothing. This one is bored to accept a unit up to 2-5/8 inches long, so the hex at the base of the sender is what the tool actually engages. That is the difference between undoing the fitting and rounding the flats off it, which on a sender wound into an alloy block is an expensive afternoon.
Two ways to turn it
The socket takes drive from either end. One end is 3/8 inch square for a standard ratchet or breaker bar; the other presents a 1-1/8 inch external hex, so an open-ended or ring spanner can be used where there is no swing room for a ratchet head. Under a manifold, the second option is often the only one available. The across-flats figure for the socket itself is given in the product title as 1-1/16 inch. Material is chrome-molybdenum steel with an oxide finish, the usual combination for a tool expected to see oily hands and long storage.
Key features
- 2-5/8 inch depth: takes the full length of a sending unit rather than the top of it.
- 3/8 inch square drive: works with the ratchets already in most toolboxes.
- 1-1/8 inch external hex: a spanner option where a ratchet will not swing.
- Chrome-molybdenum steel: the supplier's stated material.
- Oxide finish: described by the supplier as wear and rust resistant.

Match it to your sender first
- The supplier names no make, no model and no year, so no fitment is claimed here. Measure across the flats of your own sending unit, and check its length against 2-5/8 inches, before ordering.
- The supplier's phrase "compatible with most oil pressure switch sockets" appears to be a translation error and tells you nothing useful. Its own advice to check the part number against your vehicle is the sound part.
- The 1-1/16 inch socket size comes from the product title only; the supplier's description does not repeat it.
