Cut M14 x 1.5, this plug takes the place of the one in your sump and turns every oil change into a five-second inspection. Wipe the magnet, look at what has stuck to it, and you have a reading on internal wear that no filter can give you — because whatever the filter traps, you never see.
Reading the magnet at each service
Neodymium is the magnet material specified — the strongest in common use — and it sits on the end that projects into the pan where debris settles. Iron gathers there while the engine runs and comes out with the plug when you drain. Trend matters more than any single service. A thin grey film is ordinary wear off gears, bearings and chain. A thick paste, or anything with flakes you can feel between finger and thumb, is worth chasing early.
What the magnet cannot catch
Aluminium off a piston skirt, the soft overlay on a bearing shell, clutch and gasket material — none of it is ferrous, none of it sticks. Read the plug as evidence alongside the filter and the drained oil, not as a replacement for either. The supplier's wider claims about extending engine life and stopping leaks are its own. What holds up is simpler: iron pinned to a magnet in the pan is iron not being pumped back through the bearings.
Where M14 x 1.5 has to be confirmed
Fitment comes down to that thread and nothing else. Honda, Acura, Mitsubishi and Ford applications are named, along with boats and motorcycles, then all other vehicles with an M14x1.5 thread — and the supplier says outright that compatibility is for reference and pitch must be double-checked before purchase. So check it. The plug goes into the standard drain position without an adaptor, which is precisely why a near-miss is dangerous: it starts, feels almost right, and pulls the thread out of the pan.
Key features
- M14 x 1.5 thread: the figure to confirm against the plug currently in your engine.
- Neodymium magnet: named by the supplier, sited where sludge and swarf settle.
- Wipe and refit: reusable, cleaned off at each drain rather than replaced.
- Copper washer in the pack: a fresh crush washer for sealing on fitment.
Specifications
- Thread: M14 x 1.5
- Magnet material: neodymium
- Body material: not published here. The source calls it both stainless steel and aluminium, and the title adds an anodised finish, which only suits aluminium.
- Applications given by the supplier: boats and motorcycles, Honda, Acura, Mitsubishi, Ford, plus any vehicle threaded M14x1.5 — stated as reference only
- Anti-theft feature in the title: not explained anywhere in the supplier's detail
- Torque setting, hex size, magnet strength, overall length: not published
What's in the box
- One magnetic sump plug, threaded M14 x 1.5
- One copper crush washer
Fitting and sealing
- Torque to your vehicle manufacturer's sump plug figure. None is published here, and over-tightening into an alloy pan is the usual way this goes wrong.
- Use the supplied copper washer rather than the old one, then look for seepage once the engine has run and cooled.
- Pitch counts as much as diameter: M14 x 1.25 and M14 x 1.5 will not swap.
- The supplier names no standard, no certification and no warranty.
Confirm the thread, then let it get on with its quiet job, one drain at a time.
