M12 x 1.5 — check that against your own sump plug before you read another line, because on a drain plug the thread is the entire purchase decision. A plug that binds halfway into an alloy pan takes the thread with it, and that is a sump-off repair, not an oil change.
Three ways to check your own thread
Quickest is the plug already in the car: drop it at the next service and have it gauged at a fastener supplier. Next best is the workshop manual, which normally lists the sump plug thread beside its torque figure. Failing both, a pitch gauge costs less than an oil filter. Diameter alone is not enough — M12 x 1.25 exists, and it will wind into an M12 x 1.5 hole for a turn or two before it jams.
Why the badge list is the wrong thing to shop by
Honda, Acura, Mitsubishi and Ford appear in the supplier's application list, together with boats and motorcycles, and the list ends with the part that matters: all other vehicles carrying an M12x1.5 thread. The supplier states plainly that its compatibility list is reference only and asks buyers to double-check pitch before purchasing. Take that at face value. One manufacturer will use several sump plug threads across its range and its model years, so a badge match proves very little by itself.
Two materials, one plug, and a title that disagrees
The supplier's description calls the plug stainless steel and aluminium in the same sentence, and the title adds "anodised" — a finish applied to aluminium, not to stainless. We are not guessing which is right. The title also carries "anti-theft with ring" while nothing in the supplier's detail explains that feature. What is stated without ambiguity is the magnet. It is neodymium — the strongest permanent magnet material in general use — and it holds fine iron particles down in the sump instead of letting them circulate.
Key features
- M12 x 1.5 thread: the one specification to match against your existing plug.
- Neodymium magnet: the material the supplier names, for collecting fine ferrous debris.
- Standard position: replaces the existing drain plug, no adaptor.
- Reusable: cleaned and refitted service after service, not thrown away.
- Copper washer included: one sealing washer in the pack.
Specifications
- Thread: M12 x 1.5
- Magnet material: neodymium
- Body material: supplier says stainless steel and aluminium; title says anodised — see above
- Listed applications: Honda, Acura, Mitsubishi, Ford, boats, motorcycles and other M12x1.5 vehicles — supplier calls this reference only
- Torque, head size, magnet pull and overall length: not published by the supplier
What's in the box
- 1 x magnetic engine drain plug, M12 x 1.5 thread
- 1 x copper sealing washer
Before you fit it
- No torque figure is published. Use the sump plug setting in your vehicle's service data and a torque wrench; alloy pans strip easily.
- Fit the new copper washer, not the old one, then run the engine and check underneath for weeping.
- No compliance standard, certification or warranty is named for this part.
Gauge your thread first. If it comes back M12 x 1.5, this is a cheap thing to add to the next oil change.
