Climbing down a caravan step in the dark with your hands full is how ankles get rolled. A motion light solves it without a cable run: walk towards the step and it comes on, walk away and it goes out. Two are supplied.

The sensor decides, not you

An infrared sensor watches for movement and only triggers in darkness. If there is other light around, or nothing is moving, the unit stays off — which is what keeps a set of cells alive across a whole trip rather than a long weekend. Ten LED beads sit behind the lens, enough for a step or a stair tread without putting work-light glare in your eyes. Batteries are user-replaceable, and the supplier notes that a light which fails to come on, or comes on dim, usually just wants fresh cells.

Magnets, not screws

Mounting comes in two parts. An adhesive-backed magnetic strip goes on the surface, so nothing is drilled into a van skin, and the light body clips to that strip magnetically. Lift a unit off to change batteries, or take it with you into a dark locker as a stand-in torch. The same arrangement works on cupboards, hallways, boot spaces and stairs at home.
