What it needs from your car

The requirement is narrow: the vehicle must already have factory-fitted wired Apple CarPlay or wired Android Auto. The adapter converts what is there and cannot create it. Nothing is retrofitted to the dash, no wiring is cut, and the factory touchscreen, steering wheel buttons and microphone carry on as before. It plugs into USB-A, with a Type-C adapter included. It is an aftermarket accessory, not an Apple or Google product.
