Tail light globes are the easy part. The plastic holder they clip into is what actually fails — contacts corrode where water creeps past a perished gasket, and one side of the car ends up dark while a brand new globe changes nothing at all.
Holder and gaskets, matched to 6Q6945257F
This is the left-hand tail light bulb holder for the Polo 4 (9N3), 2005 to 2010, supplied with its gaskets. That last detail matters more than it sounds: the gasket is what keeps the lamp housing sealed, and putting a holder back behind a flattened seal is how the replacement ends up corroded too. OE number 6Q6945257F is the reference to check against the back of the unit you are removing. It is an aftermarket part built to match that number rather than a genuine component, whatever the supplier's wording about OEM requirements suggests.
Left side — and check which side that is
The supplier calls this the driver's side. On an Australian right-hand-drive Polo it is not: the left-hand side is the passenger side, and the opposite holder is a different part. Take the description literally — this is the left-hand unit. If it is the right-hand tail light playing up, this is the wrong part. Sitting in the car and pointing is the reliable check; labelling in imported supplier data is not.

- OE reference 6Q6945257F: for matching against your existing unit.
- Stated fitment: Polo 4 (9N3), 2005 to 2010.

What's in the box
- 1 x left tail light bulb holder with gaskets
Before you fit these
- Confirm which side you need. The supplier's "driver's side" label reflects left-hand-drive markets and is reversed on an Australian Polo.
- Check the OE number on your existing holder before ordering.
- No globes are supplied; reuse or replace your own.
- Check every lamp function works before the housing and boot trim go back on.
A corroded holder is one of the more common reasons a fresh globe still refuses to light. Match the number, check the side, and the swap is straightforward.
