Leave a 4WD parked for a fortnight and the alarm, the head unit memory and the dash cam quietly pull the battery down. A key-operated isolator on the negative terminal breaks the circuit properly, so the vehicle sits with nothing drawing from it until you put the key back in.
Stopping the slow drain
Parasitic draw is why a healthy battery is flat after a holiday. This is a two-position on/off disconnect, and the supplier recommends mounting it on the negative battery terminal so one turn isolates the whole system. Two keys come with it, and the key can only be withdrawn when the circuit is disconnected, so a glance at the terminal tells you the state of the vehicle. A waterproof cap covers the barrel against dust and water, which counts on a boat trailer or a tray-back that lives outside.
Read the ratings, not just the headline
The supplier publishes several current figures and they do not agree, so all of them are reproduced below. The title quotes a maximum withstand current of 200 A at 12 V. The specification block then gives standard parameters of 100 A DC continuous, 150 A DC intermittent and 500 A DC cranking, and separately lists recommended safe application parameters of 70 A DC continuous, 100 A DC intermittent and 300 A DC cranking. The conservative recommended figures are the ones to design an installation around.
Key features
- Two supplied keys: removable only when the circuit is disconnected.
- Waterproof keyhole cap: keeps dust and water out of the barrel.
- Negative terminal mounting: the supplier's recommended position.
- Flush or surface mount: let into a panel or bolted onto one.
- Two-position operation: on or off, with no partial state to misread.

Before you fit this
- The current ratings above are the supplier's own and they conflict. Size your installation against the lowest published figure rather than the 200 A headline.
- Terminal size is given two different ways. Measure your battery cable lugs against the photos before ordering.
- Disconnect the battery before fitting, and have the work checked by a qualified auto electrician if the vehicle carries an alarm, ECU-backed memory or a dual-battery setup.
For a vehicle, boat or caravan that sits between trips, it is the simplest way to make sure the battery is still there when you get back.
