The supplier rates this hoist at 20 kg, and that figure decides whether it suits your bike. A road bike or a kid's bike sits comfortably under it. A steel-framed mountain bike with a rack, lights and a lock gets close. Most e-bikes weigh more than 20 kg on their own and are out of scope here, whatever the title says about heavy duty. Weigh the bike first. The 20 kg is given for the hoist as a whole, with no per-hook figure stated.

Rope, straps and a lock that holds

Sixteen metres of rope runs through the blocks, which is what makes ceilings up to 3.65 m workable and why a bike you would struggle to hold overhead goes up on a steady pull. Two 2 m straps carry the frame, and the hooks are rubber-coated so a painted top tube never sits against bare steel. The locking mechanism holds the rope once the bike is up, so nothing creeps down while the garage is empty.
