Mounting a diesel heater in a van locker or under a canopy often leaves the exhaust a long way from where it needs to exit. At 1980 mm this stainless pipe covers those awkward runs, so the outlet finishes under the floor and well behind windows and doors rather than wherever the supplied hose happened to stop.

Close to two metres of usable run

Long runs matter more than they look on a spec sheet. Pushing the exit point further back means the plume clears the vehicle instead of drifting along the sill, and it lets you avoid the tight bends that choke flow and load up the combustion chamber. Trim off whatever you do not need. Corrugations along the full length let the pipe be shaped around a chassis rail by hand, then held there by the two clamps supplied without springing back.

Why stainless earns its keep underneath

Gas leaves a diesel air heater hot and damp, and the pipe spends the rest of its life in road grit. Stainless copes with that better than coated steel: no paint to blister off the first time the unit runs at full output, and no rust bloom creeping out of the clamp joints over a winter. The ribbed wall also soaks up vibration between a chassis-mounted heater and a body-mounted outlet, which is exactly where rigid tube tends to fracture.

Fitting and safety notes

• Terminate the exhaust outside the living or sleeping area, following the heater manufacturer's fitting instructions.
• Carbon monoxide is odourless — fit a CO alarm in any space where the heater runs while people sleep.
• Support the pipe at intervals along its length so its weight is not hanging off the heater outlet stub.
• Route it away from fuel lines, wiring looms and anything flammable; surface temperatures are high in use.

Choose the length that lets you route it properly the first time — a forced bend is the usual reason an install ends up noisy and sooty.
