An engine coming out on a hoist is dead weight, and the only thing between it and the concrete is the chain. This is a four-leg lifting sling with grab hooks and adjusters. Everything below is quoted the way the supplier states it, because the load figures on this listing do not agree with each other and a lifting assembly is the wrong place to guess.
What the supplier states about capacity
Three figures appear across this listing and they are not the same number. The title reads 8 Ton / 8344 kg. The supplier's own description reads "Maximum Working Capacity: 18,400 lbs". No breaking strength is published anywhere on the listing, and nothing states whether the figure applies to one leg, to two legs, or to the assembled four-leg sling at a particular included angle — which, on a multi-leg sling, changes the answer entirely. Work to the lowest of the three, and have the assembly assessed by a competent person before it takes weight.
Chain, hooks and the four adjusters
The chain is described as G80 manganese steel with alloy steel hooks, joined by what the supplier calls full-automatic welding. G80 is a grade designation, carried here exactly as the supplier gives it: no standard is named anywhere on this listing, so nothing on this page is a certification, a test result or a compliance statement. The four adjusters shorten each leg independently, which is how an off-centre load such as a gearbox or a differential housing is brought level instead of hanging on one corner.

Before you lift with this
- This is lifting equipment. It is not vehicle recovery gear and must never be used to snatch, tow or winch — those are dynamic loads and they will wreck a lifting chain.
- Inspect every link, hook and adjuster before each use, and retire the sling if any part is cut, gouged, cracked, corroded, bent, worn or stretched.
- Never shock-load it. Take the slack up slowly and lift smoothly.
- No load may pass over a person, and nobody stands beneath a suspended load.
- Seat the load in the bowl of the hook, never on the tip. The supplier is explicit on that point.
- Do not twist, knot or turn the chain back on itself.
- Any lifting sling should be inspected by a competent person to the relevant standard before it goes into service, and at the intervals that standard sets.
Suited to engine hoists and general workshop lifting. Check the figures above against your own load, and get the assembly signed off before it carries anything.
