Every look down at the instrument cluster is a moment with your eyes off the road, and on a long highway stint those moments stack up. A head-up display shifts speed into your peripheral vision, sitting on the dash top just below your line of sight.
Speed off the satellites, not the car's wiring
This unit takes speed from satellite signal rather than tapping the vehicle's diagnostic port, which is why the supplier lists it against cars, trucks, motorcycles and bicycles rather than a model list. Power is a single USB lead, so there are no fuse taps and nothing run behind the dash. It powers on and off with the ignition, provided the socket is switched rather than always live.
Readable at noon, restrained at night
Glare at midday and a bright panel at night are what spoil a cheap head-up display. A light sensor adjusts brightness to conditions and a moulded sun visor shades the screen from above. Because this is a direct-view screen rather than a reflection off the glass, the supplier states there is no double ghosting and no film needed on the windscreen.
Key features
- Overspeed alarm: sounds at a threshold you set, for highways where speed creeps up.
- Fatigue driving warning: prompts a break after a continuous stretch at the wheel.

Before you mount it
- Position it so it does not obstruct your view of the road. Dash-mount rules vary between states and checking them is the owner's responsibility.
- Satellite-derived speed can differ from the vehicle's speedometer. Treat the car's own instrument as the reference.
- Automatic on and off depends on your USB socket being ignition-switched.
A simple way to keep speed in view on long drives, with nothing stuck to the glass.
