Oxidised alloy rims and a dull stainless manifold do not come back with a rag and elbow grease. Both need a buffing wheel spinning against them, and a cordless drill supplies the speed. This kit is six cotton buffs in three shapes, split across a coarse and a fine stage.

Cut first, then bring up the shine

Work the yellow buffs first. The supplier's sequence is to use those to lift stains and surface oxide off the metal, which leaves it smoother but still flat-looking. The white buffs then follow to refine that surface and bring out the gloss. Skip the first stage on a badly oxidised wheel and a fine buff has nothing to bite into — it just glazes over the corrosion. The supplier puts the yellow buffs on larger areas and localised metal work such as wheels and door handles, and the white ones on stainless steel and ceramics.

Three shapes for awkward corners

Rims are full of spoke roots, lug recesses and tight radii where one shape cannot reach, so the kit runs a 65 mm mushroom buff for broad curves, a 100 mm T-shape for open faces and a 30 mm conical buff for narrow gaps. Each is cotton, layered and stitched through the centre so the fabric holds together under load rather than fraying apart, and they can be washed and reused.
