A tired 1157 globe rarely gives notice. One filament dies, the tail light still glows and the brake light does nothing at all, which is the kind of fault you only find out about from the car behind. These are LED replacements on the same BAY15D bayonet base, 52 mm long, dropping into the socket a dual-filament globe came out of.

Thirty-three emitters instead of a filament

Each globe carries 33 SMD 5630 emitters arranged around the body rather than one coil at the centre. Light spreads through the reflector more evenly than a point source manages, and a single failed emitter dims the globe rather than killing it outright. Output is white. LEDs also strike at full brightness immediately, where a filament takes a fraction of a second to get there. The supplier publishes no lumen figure, so there is nothing to compare against the globe you are replacing.

Aluminium body, bayonet base

The housing is aluminium, giving the emitters somewhere to send their heat; roughly 50,000 hours of life is quoted on the strength of it. Fitment is 1157 / BAY15D and nothing else. • These globes emit white light. Colour requirements differ between reversing lamps and rear-facing tail, brake, fog and indicator positions, and they vary by state. Check what applies in your state, and to your vehicle, before fitting these for road use.
• Fitment is 1157 / BAY15D only. Check the globe currently in the housing rather than relying on the cross-reference list.
• The supplier's title describes trailer lights and reflectors, but what is specified and supplied is LED globes. No lamp housings or reflectors appear anywhere in the specification.
• Current draw is not published. LED globes typically draw less than the filament globes they replace, which on some vehicles changes indicator flash rate or triggers a lamp-out warning.
