30Cm×100Cm Car Fog Light Tail Light Vinyl Film Sticker (Yellow)

Fog lights and tail lenses sit low and forward of the wheels, which is exactly where gravel thrown off the road ends up. Once a lens is pitted or crazed it stays that way. This roll of yellow vinyl film goes over the outside of the lens as a sacrificial layer, taking the chips and the UV instead of the plastic underneath.

A tinted skin that wears out so the lens does not

The film is built in three layers, with a protective top sheet you peel away after it is laid down. The supplier states light output is held at 90 per cent through the tint and that the material dissipates heat from the lamp rather than trapping it. It resists scratching, ageing and cracking, and because it bonds to the lens rather than clipping over it, a trip through the car wash does not lift an edge.

Laying it flat on a curved lens

A roll folded for shipping usually arrives creased. Warming the film with a hair dryer relaxes those out before it goes on. Both the lens and the film need to be completely dry when the two meet, otherwise trapped moisture shows as haze once the lamp warms up. Work from the centre outwards and the vinyl follows the shape.

• Tinting a lamp changes the colour of the light it emits and reduces how much of it gets out. Restrictions on the visible colour of forward-facing and rear lighting apply and vary by state, so confirm the requirements for your vehicle and state before fitting for road use.
