Open a door at night and the ground below it is the one place the interior light never reaches. These project a butterfly onto the ground beside the sill when the door swings open, and switch off when it closes. They stick on, run on batteries, and come off again without a mark.

No wiring, no drilling, no trim removal

The projector attaches to the inside of the door panel with double-sided adhesive, and a small magnet goes on the door threshold. When the door opens, the magnet moves away from the unit and the light comes on; when it closes, the magnet returns and it switches off. That is the entire installation. Nothing is spliced into the car's wiring, no fuse is involved, and no panel has to come off — which also means nothing to undo if you sell the car or hand back a lease.

The supplier contradicts itself on how it senses the door

One line describes infrared induction control, another describes a magnet sensor with a magnet stuck to the threshold. Those are different mechanisms. The installation instructions describe the magnet, and a magnet is supplied, so that is what this page treats as correct — but if the sensing method matters to you, ask before ordering. The battery designation has the same problem: the specification lists "3 No. 7 batteries", which is a Chinese size code, while the installation note says three AAA. They mean the same thing. Batteries are not included.

Before you fit them

• Lighting visible from outside a vehicle is regulated in Australia, and what is permitted varies between states and with where a light is fitted and what colour it shows. Nothing here states that these are or are not permitted for road use — confirm the requirements that apply to your vehicle and your state before fitting.
• Not a warning light. The supplier suggests these can serve as a warning light to prevent accidents. That claim is not carried here: there is no brightness figure, no beam data and no standard behind it, and a projected image on the ground is not a substitute for the car's own door-edge reflectors or hazard lights.
• Check the surface. Adhesive needs a clean, flat, dry area of door panel. Textured or fabric trim will not hold it.

Sold as a decorative accessory. The supplier describes it as suiting all brands of car, which is their wording rather than a fitment guarantee — the real requirement is a flat panel for the adhesive and a threshold the magnet can sit on.
