Sweep at one end, chisel at the other

The head carries a broom on one side and a chisel-edged scraper on the other, so you sweep the loose stuff clear first, then attack the layer bonded to the glass. The brush measures 21.5 cm across with four rows of nylon bristles, wide enough to clear a bonnet in a few passes. The 11.2 cm blade is moulded with grooves the supplier calls ice-guiding chutes, meant to fracture a frost sheet rather than let it ride up under the edge.

Comes apart for the boot

At 68 cm the tool reaches the middle of a wagon roof without leaning across the paint, and that same length is what makes most scrapers a nuisance to store. The quick-release joint separates the scraper from the brush handle, dropping it to a size that fits under a seat. It weighs about 295 g: ABS structural parts, a PP core in the shaft, and a thick EVA foam collar so your hands are not wrapped around cold plastic.

Before you start scraping

• Brush the loose snow off before the blade goes near the glass. Grit dragged under a scraper is what leaves marks.
• Keep the blade to glass. The supplier's paint-safety wording covers the bristles, not the scraper edge.
• Don't lever it against frozen wiper blades or a frozen door seal — both tear before the ice lets go.

Stow it behind the seat before the first frost and the morning routine gets considerably shorter.
