What 600 gsm actually buys you

Grams per square metre measures how much fibre is packed into the weave, and fibre holds water. A thin cloth wets through after one door and starts pushing water around instead of lifting it. At 600 gsm there is enough depth in the pile to take a panel's worth before it needs wringing, and the supplier states it can be wrung and washed repeatedly without losing absorbency. The supplier describes it as lint-resistant.

Two faces, two jobs

One side carries long pile for soaking up standing water; the other is woven in a grid pattern aimed at glass, where you want a flatter, tighter face that clears the film rather than smearing it. At 40 x 40 cm these are panel and window cloths rather than the bath-towel-sized sheets sold for drying a whole car in one pass, which is why they come as a pair.
