Slip-fit exhaust joints leak long before they fail outright. It starts as a faint tick at idle and turns into a rasp under load once the sealing face has worn. Pulling the joint up properly with a correctly sized clamp is usually all that stands between the two.
Sized to a 2.5 in slip fit
This clamp closes a 2.5-inch OD-to-ID slip joint, where one pipe slides inside the next and the band squeezes the overlap. The strap measures 1.22 in (31 mm) across, a narrow band by design — it concentrates clamping load over the overlap itself rather than spreading it along tube that plays no part in the seal. The supplier recommends running exhaust sealant on the pipes before assembly, which is worth doing on any joint that has been apart before.
What is actually in the assembly
The band is 304 stainless. The fastener is a zinc-plated M10 bolt and nut seated against a steel gasket, with an aluminium alloy I-block taking up the gap where the band ends meet. That block is the working part: as the bolt draws down, it pulls both ends of the strap inward together, which is how the assembly reaches its 63 N·m torque figure without the band buckling at the ends.
Key features
- Two per pack: covers both ends of a section in one purchase.
- Single M10 fastener: one bolt and nut does the whole joint, with no welding involved.
- Aluminium I-block: draws both band ends in together for an even pull.
- 304 stainless strap: chosen for heat cycling and corrosion resistance.
- Reusable: unbolt it when the muffler next has to come off.

Getting the joint right
- Work on a cold system only.
- Confirm your pipe size first. This suits a 2.5 in slip joint, not a butt join between two pipes of the same diameter.
- Apply exhaust sealant to the overlap before assembly, as the supplier advises.
- Retorque once the system has been up to temperature and cooled again.
Get the size right and torque it properly and a joint like this will usually outlast the muffler on either side of it.
