Bonnet heat and engine drone arrive the same way: through a bare steel panel with nothing on the back of it. These sheets go onto that panel. A 10 mm foam core faced with aluminium foil, cut to 50 x 30 cm, which is a size you can actually place between the ribs and brackets rather than trimming half of it away.

Ten millimetres doing two jobs

The foam core absorbs the mid and high frequencies that make a cabin tiring on a long run, while the foil face reflects radiant heat back towards where it came from. Ten millimetres is substantial enough to be worth fitting to a bonnet underside and still slim enough for the panel to close on. The supplier rates the material from -40°C to +107°C, which places it in bonnet-lining and cabin territory, nowhere near exhaust temperatures.

Peel, stick, done

Each sheet carries an oil-based adhesive under a release paper that pulls away cleanly, so you are not fighting a shredded liner while holding a sheet overhead. Twelve sheets give scope to line a bonnet and still have material spare for a firewall, door skin or boot floor. Foil-faced foam cuts with a sharp blade or shears, so trimming around a washer bottle or a bonnet stay is straightforward.
