Dash lights fail one at a time, and you generally notice on a night drive: a gauge goes dark, then the heater panel. Because the bulbs live behind the cluster, pulling the dash apart for a single globe is not a job worth doing twice, which is why these come ten to a pack.

Each bulb measures 5 mm across and 19.5 mm long, the standard T5 envelope used behind gauge clusters, heater controls and switch panels. At 12 V and 1.2 W apiece they draw very little, so relamping a whole dash adds almost nothing to the load on the ignition circuit. The supplier describes the output as a soft light rather than a hard white, which is the level you want on a gauge face at night, where an over-bright bulb reflects off the inside of the lens and washes out the needle.

Before you fit these

• Pull one of your existing bulbs and compare it against the 5 mm x 19.5 mm size before ordering. The supplier asks buyers to check compatibility first.
• The fitting note specifies correct polarity, so orient the bulb rather than pushing it in either way round.
• These are a 12 V DC bulb and suit vehicle, caravan and other 12 V fittings. The supplier's own text also describes them as indoor fixture bulbs, so do not order them for a mains fitting.
