Divided, not just a lined gap

Read it as a cosmetic finish that sits dark and technical against most interiors. ABS is the sensible material for the job in any case: rigid enough to keep its shape with a full cup sitting in it, and untroubled by the temperatures a car reaches parked in the sun all afternoon.

Before you slide them in

• Seat rails: run the seat through its full fore-and-aft travel with the tray in place and make sure nothing sits over a runner or blocks the motion.
• Belt buckle: the inboard seat belt buckle stalk must stay reachable and free to swing. Do not let a tray press against it or hide it.
• Wiring: seat motors, occupant sensors and heater looms run beneath the front seats. Nothing should be resting on a connector or a loom.
• Measure the gap first. At 6 cm deep and 16.2 cm wide, these will not sit correctly in every vehicle, and the supplier asks buyers to check compatibility before purchase.
