A barb and a hose clamp will hold an air line, right up until the clamp bites through the tube or the hose has to come off in a hurry. A push-to-connect union does the job with a collet: press the tube in and it grips.
Tube into the collet, nothing to tighten
A straight union carries no thread anywhere on it — both ends take 1/4 inch OD tube. Push the tube home, a gripping ring bites its outer wall and an O-ring seals against it. The release collar is elliptical rather than plain round, which the supplier says keeps the collet square as it frees the tube. Nothing is clamped, so the joint still turns once fitted.
Nickel-plated brass and a Viton seal
The body is nickel-plated brass, which the supplier credits with corrosion resistance and ductility at high temperature. The seal is FKM, sold under the Viton name, rather than a general-purpose nitrile. The title, however, calls these connectors stainless steel. The two disagree, so both are listed below.
Specifications
- Style: straight union, tube to tube, no thread
- Tube: 1/4 inch OD both ends
- Body: nickel-plated brass (body copy) vs stainless steel (title) — these conflict
- Seal: FKM (Viton) O-ring
- Pressure: 2 MPa | 290 psi as printed; the supplier does not say whether that is working or maximum
- Fluids admitted: air, water, steam
- Temperature: -20°C to 120°C | -4°F to 248°F
- Tubing: PU, nylon, soft PE
- Pack quantity: two, taken from the title; no count appears in the body copy
Before you plumb these in
- Steam sits in the fluid list against a 120°C ceiling. Check that with the supplier before any steam line.
- Truck and trailer air suspension and brake circuits appear in the application list. Air brake work is safety-critical and belongs with a qualified person.
- Measure your tubing across the outside first. A 1/4 inch OD tube is not 1/4 inch bore.
Sensible spares for a compressor line where a joint comes apart twice a day.
