A winch dragging a boat onto a trailer is doing short, heavy work. One recovering a bogged side-by-side from a creek bed is doing long, slow work. The X-BULL 5000 lb is built around the second job: 15.2 m of synthetic line, a 500 A solenoid and gearing that takes its time.
Synthetic line instead of steel cable
Fifty feet of 6.3 mm synthetic rope replaces the usual wire. Synthetic does not store energy the way steel does, so a failure tends to drop the line rather than send it whipping back, and it can be coiled by hand without the broken strands steel picks up after a few hard recoveries. It is also far lighter, which matters on a quad or a trailer where every kilo on the nose changes the way the thing tows. An aluminium hawse fairlead is supplied to match, which is the fairlead type normally paired with rope.
Sealed to IP66, rated for a 5% duty cycle
X-BULL gives the winch and controls an IP66 rating, everything bar the remote switch, which covers the water a bow-mounted winch actually meets on a boat ramp or a river crossing. Duty cycle is stated as 5%, and the supplier spells out what that means: 45 seconds at maximum rated load, then 14 minutes and 15 seconds of rest. Read that before buying rather than after. This is a recovery winch for short bursts under full load, not a machine for winching continuously, and ignoring the rest interval is how motors cook themselves.
Wiring and mounting sorted in the carton
The kit arrives with the controller, solenoid and receiver together, four solenoid cables, a mounting plate, a set of bolts, and both a wireless and a corded handheld remote. Adaptor plate and fairlead each get their own grade 8 M8 hardware. The mounting pattern is 76.2 x 167.6 mm and the winch measures 400 x 116 x 119 mm overall at 12 kg, so check both against the bracket you intend to use before ordering. A quarter-inch clevis hook with a spring-loaded safety latch finishes the rope end.
Key features
- Rated single line pull 5000 lb (2268 kg): X-BULL states this explicitly as a single-line figure.
- 6.3 mm synthetic rope: 15.2 m, lighter than steel and safer to handle after a hard pull.
- 500 A solenoid: the supplier specifies a heavier relay to reduce the burn-out that undersized relays cause.
- IP66 winch and controls: remote switch excluded from the rating.
- Three-stage planetary gearing: reduction split across three gear sets rather than concentrated in one.
- Cam-activated freespool: pull line off the drum by hand without powering it out.

Before you wire it in
- 5000 lb (2268 kg) is the rated single line pull. No double-line rating is published, so do not treat a snatch block as a way of doubling it.
- Respect the 5% duty cycle. The supplier's own figure allows 45 seconds at maximum rated load followed by a 14 minute 15 second rest.
- CE is the only marking the supplier names, and no Australian standard, approval or test rating appears anywhere in its data.
- A winch pulls; it does not lift. Never suspend a load over anyone with it.
- Keep bystanders out of line with the rope while it is loaded, and use a dampener.
Aimed at quads, side-by-sides and boat trailers. Confirm the 76.2 x 167.6 mm mounting pattern and the 400 mm body width suit your bracket before you order.
