Every pull, without exception

• Inspect the line, hook and fairlead before each use. Retire line that is cut, flattened, kinked or heat-damaged instead of getting one more pull out of it.
• Lay a heavy dampener over the line once it is under tension, roughly midway, so a failure drops the line rather than letting it travel.
• Keep everyone out of the arc the line would sweep if it let go, and well back from the winch itself.
• Pull only from a rated recovery point. A tow ball, tow bar tongue or bumper bar is not one and must never be used.
• Never join two straps or lines with a shackle.
