T-REX 80L Mobile Waste Oil Drainer, Telescopic, with Air Compressor Fitting, for Workshop

Filling an 80 litre tank is the easy part. Getting 80 litres back out again, up into a drum or a bulk store, is where most workshops end up tipping something heavy and regretting it. The TRD-8PR takes a shop air line through a 1/4 inch NPT fitting and pushes the contents out under pressure instead.

Compressed air does the emptying

Connect a compressor to the standard 1/4 inch NPT fitting and the tank pressurises, driving waste fluid down a 1.5 m discharge hose that resists abrasion, heat and ozone. The supplier gives a working range of 1 to 2.5 bar and a stated maximum of 3 bar / 45 psi. That ceiling is their figure, reproduced as printed, and it is not one to experiment past on a sealed tank — a regulator on the air line is the sensible way to hold it. Degree of vacuum is listed as 0-0.8 PA.

From 98 cm up to 164 cm

The lifting shaft covers 66 cm of adjustment, 98 cm at its lowest and 164 cm fully wound out, which puts the 10 litre pan beneath a sump on a hoist or under a ute sitting on stands. That pan swivels on the shaft and carries a mesh screen, so it can be angled to wherever the fluid is actually running and still catch whatever falls with it. Two 5 inch fixed wheels and two 3 inch swivelling castors carry the 14 kg body, and a level indicator on the tank shows how close 80 litres is getting.

Air pressure, hot oil and disposal

• Dispose of the tank's contents through a licensed oil recycler only. Ground, drains and stormwater pits are never acceptable, whatever the quantity.
• Oil drained from a warm engine is hot enough to blister skin. Wait for it to cool, and use gloves and safety glasses.
• Keep the supply within the supplier's stated 3 bar / 45 psi maximum. Regulate the air line, and do not walk away from a tank left under pressure.
• No compressor is included. You supply the air source and the connection to the 1/4 inch NPT fitting.
• The unit ships flat and needs assembling out of the carton.

A good fit where there is already an air line on the wall and no appetite for lifting a full tank.
