A steering lock is not there to defeat a determined thief with time and tools. It is there to be seen through the windscreen and make the car parked next to yours the easier option. This one is a steel bar that clamps across the spokes of the wheel and stays visible from outside.
A deterrent that has to be seen to work
The lock is built around a steel inner column that the supplier describes as resistant to cutting, corrosion and cracking. Three reinforced internal nails hold it against the wheel so it cannot simply be twisted free once locked. A section of anti-wear sponge sits where the bar meets the rim, stopping it scuffing the wheel every time it goes on and off. Small detail, but often the difference between a lock used nightly and one left in the boot.
It only suits a three-spoke wheel
This is the constraint that decides whether it fits your car. The lock works only where the steering wheel has three spokes crossing the centre, and the width of that three-spoke section must be 6 cm or less. The same supplier text also calls it suitable for all car steering wheels including trucks, minivans and SUVs, but that broader claim cannot stand alongside the three-spoke and 6 cm limits, so go by the measurement.
Key features
- Steel inner column: rated by the supplier against cutting, corrosion and cracking.
- Three reinforced internal nails: hold the lock against the spokes so it cannot be rotated off.
- Anti-wear sponge pad: protects the rim where the lock makes contact.
- Adjustable engagement: the tooth position adapts to the wheel size, which the supplier states does not reduce how securely it holds.
Specifications
- Type: three-spoke steering wheel lock
- Inner column material: steel
- Maximum spoke section width: 6 cm
- Required wheel design: three spokes crossing the centre
- Dimensions, weight, colour and number of keys: not published
Before you fit this
- Measure the width across your three-spoke section first. Over 6 cm and the lock will not suit the car.
- Turn the wheel to full left or right lock before fitting, which the supplier states makes it more effective.
- Some slight rotation of the fitted lock is described by the supplier as normal and does not reduce how it holds.
- Remove it before driving away, and never fit or take it off while the vehicle is moving.
Goes on in the few seconds it takes to walk away from the car, and it is obvious to anyone who looks in.
