The steering wheel on a twenty-year-old Club Car has usually gone chalky, slick and faded to a colour nobody chose. Swapping the wheel is the easy half of the job. The adapter is the half people forget, because without one an aftermarket wheel has nothing to bolt onto.

34 splines at one end, five or six holes at the other

This adapter is broached for a 34-spline column, which is what the supplier lists for the Club Car DS, and its face is drilled to accept steering wheels with a five-hole or six-hole bolt pattern. Both ends have to match before anything goes together: splines to your column, hole pattern to the wheel you have picked. The steering wheel itself is not supplied, so order the two at the same time unless one is already sitting on the shelf. Count the holes on the back of your wheel first.

Coated to live outdoors

The body is aluminium, finished in black satin by electrophoresis rather than spraying. The process draws an even film into machined corners and thread reliefs that a spray gun tends to miss, and the supplier lists it for corrosion and heat resistance. That is worth something on a cart that spends its life parked in the open, where a bare alloy adapter goes white and chalky inside a season.
