The wheel cover and the 38 cm question

It is cut for rims of approximately 38 cm diameter, which is the common size across passenger cars — but it is not truly universal, so measure across your own rim before ordering. An anti-slip particle lining runs around the inside face, gripping the rim instead of relying on the plush alone to hold position.

One cushion, covering one seat

The cushion measures 45 x 45 cm and weighs around 350 g. Its face is bubble fleece in the same faux rabbit fur — no animal product is involved, and the supplier states this plainly — while the underside carries a silicone base to keep it from wandering on cloth or leather. Warmth aside, it absorbs the daily wear that would otherwise land on the seat itself: jeans rivets, keys in a back pocket, a wet jacket after a run to the shops. Note the quantity, though. It is a single cushion, so a second seat needs a second set.

Fitting checks worth doing

• Push the cover fully home, then grip it and try to twist it hard in both directions before you drive anywhere. If it turns on the rim at all, it is the wrong size for that wheel.
• Keep the cover confined to the rim and clear of the centre pad, which is where the driver's airbag lives.
• A cushion raises you off the seat, altering where the lap belt crosses your hips and how far you sit from the pedals. Re-check the belt sits low across the pelvis, and re-set the seat position afterwards.
