Most of the roar at highway speed is not the tyres. It is air working its way through the gap where a door meets its frame, and that same gap is how bulldust ends up on the sill after a gravel run. This T-profile rubber strip fills the gap: two metres of it, 19 mm wide, backed with tape.

EPDM, because sun and heat destroy cheap foam

The strip is EPDM rubber, a synthetic that keeps its section through repeated heat cycling instead of crushing flat the way open-cell foam does. The supplier describes it as elastic and easy to fold and bend, which is what lets one length follow the curve of a door frame or a sunroof surround without kinking at the corners. It is listed as waterproof, dustproof and non-toxic. In practice that means the strip is still sealing after a summer parked outside, rather than going hard and splitting at the first cold snap.

Before you stick it down

• Clean the frame with a mild detergent and let it dry — the tape grips clean, dry surfaces only.
• Peel the backing film from one end, positioning the strip as it lands.
• Do not tug at the strip by hand once stuck.
• No water for the first 24 hours, and avoid working that door while the adhesive sets.

Measure the run before ordering. A length that falls short cannot be stretched to fit.
