A front seat is not a flat bench. The squab slopes back, bolsters run up each side, and there is a crease where the backrest meets the base. A dog standing on all of that puts claws and damp fur into exactly the places a towel slides off. This cover is cut to the shape instead, and the sides zip.

Flat sheet, or four walls

Left open it lies across the passenger seat as a plain protector over the base, the backrest and the join between them. Zip the side panels up and the same piece of material becomes a walled tray, so bedding stays where it was put and a small dog sits in a defined space rather than on a slope. That is the genuinely useful part of the design: one purchase covering two jobs, switched between trips without tools or a second product.

Four layers, each doing something

The build is set out layer by layer in the specification. The face is 600D Oxford, the heavier of the two fabric weights here, sitting where claws land. Behind it is PP cotton wadding, quilted through, which gives the panel its padding and stops it folding into hard creases. Then a 210D polyester lining, and finally a non-slip mesh underside that sits against the seat trim. The whole thing weighs about 0.7 kg. Waterproofing is asserted by the supplier without a coating specification, a water column figure or any test to go with it.

Take a tape to your own seat

One dimension is published: roughly 100 x 50 cm of main covering area. The supplier's line about fitting most standard front seats is not something we will repeat for your car, because seats vary enormously between a small hatch and a dual-cab ute. Measure the width across your cushion and the height up the backrest, compare both against that 100 x 50 cm, and order on the result. Two colours are stocked, black and grey, at one price.

You are choosing an airbag position

Set out plainly so you can act on it: this is upholstery protection. No crash rating exists for it, no load rating either, and it does no restraining of any sort. The adjustable buckle straps tension the cover onto the seat frame; the animal is not attached to anything. A pet travelling unsecured is a hazard to itself and to everyone else in the cabin, and the fix is a separate travel restraint anchoring a body harness, not a collar. The front passenger position is also an airbag position: a passenger airbag deploys through the dash, and side units deploy through the seat back. Look up the airbag locations for your own vehicle and decide from there whether the front seat is where your dog should travel.
