A 153:1 reduction through the gearbox trades speed for torque, so the drum turns slowly and steadily rather than snatching. Corded control, and why that is not a downgrade

Control here is by wired handset, with the remote and control box integrated into one assembly. There is no wireless option and no receiver to pair, flatten or lose. What you get instead is immediate response: press, and the drum moves, with none of the lag a radio link introduces. On a winch operated from a metre away while loading a trailer, that directness beats range. The all-steel shell carries a black frosted finish over an orange body, and the load-holding dynamic brake stops the drum paying out when the switch is released.

Safe operation on a small winch

• Wind the cable out and look at it before each use. Broken strands, kinks and birdcaging mean the cable is finished, not that it needs a careful pull.
• Wear gloves when handling steel cable, and lay a dampener over it once it is loaded.
• Stand out of the line of pull, and keep others out of the arc the cable would travel on a failure.
• Anchor to rated points only. A tow ball, tow bar tongue, bumper bar or unrated bracket will not do.
• Never shackle two straps together.
• A 2,500 lb winch is for loading and positioning gear, not for recovering a bogged vehicle. Do not use it beyond what it is rated to pull.
