A winch mounted on the front of a quad gets bathed in creek water, dust and grit before it ever sees a hard pull. X-BULL rates this 4500 lb model IP68 on the winch and controls — resistance to immersion up to three feet, everything bar the remote switch. That is the line on the spec sheet worth reading first.
Points to check first
The supplier's own listing disagrees with itself on one important detail, so it is worth stating plainly rather than burying. The product title describes synthetic rope. The specification list supplied alongside it states wire rope, 5.5 mm x 15.2 m. Both appear below exactly as X-BULL publishes them and neither has been adjusted or reconciled. Rope material is not a cosmetic difference: synthetic and steel behave very differently when a line lets go, and each needs its own style of fairlead. Confirm which one ships before ordering. The rest of the specification is consistent across both sources.
Gearing, drum and the way it holds a load
The gear train is a three-stage planetary set, so reduction is shared across three groups of gears instead of being concentrated in one, which is why winches built this way tolerate the long, slow pulls that recovery work mostly consists of. Feeding it is a 12 V DC 1.9 hp permanent-magnet motor and a 500 A solenoid; X-BULL is explicit that undersized relays are what burn out first on cheaper winches. The drum measures 50 x 74 mm, freespool is cam-activated for pulling line out by hand, and an automatic mechanical brake holds the load when the switch is released.
Sized for an ATV bumper
Overall the winch is 338 x 108 x 114 mm on a 76.2 x 124 mm mounting pattern, the spacing most quad and side-by-side winch cradles are cut to. Power in and power out are both supported, so the drum is driven under motor control in each direction rather than freewheeling back. Lead lengths are generous for the class: 3.7 m on the wired remote, 1.83 m battery cables in 6 gauge, 0.92 m solenoid cables and a 2.4 m handlebar controller. Sound rating is quoted at 85 dB, loud enough to hear clearly over an idling engine.
Key features
- Rated single line pull 4500 lb (2041 kg): stated by X-BULL as a single-line figure.
- IP68 winch and controls: supplier states resistance to immersion up to 3 ft, remote switch excluded.
- 500 A solenoid: a heavier relay specified to cut the risk of burn-out under sustained load.
- Cam-activated freespool: line comes off the drum by hand without powering it.
- Power in and power out: the drum is driven in both directions.
- 76.2 x 124 mm mounting pattern: the common ATV and UTV bracket spacing.

Before you commit to it
- Rope material is unsettled in the supplier's data. The title says synthetic, the specification list says wire rope. Confirm before ordering and match the fairlead to whichever arrives.
- Two weights are published, 25 lb (11.3 kg) and 21.6 lb (9.8 kg). Neither has been picked for you.
- 4500 lb (2041 kg) is the rated single line pull. No double-line rating is published, so a snatch block should not be assumed to double it.
- The only marking X-BULL cites here is CE. No Australian standard or approval is stated for this winch.
- This is a pulling winch, not a hoist. Nothing should ever be lifted or held above a person with it.
- Keep clear of the line under tension and use a dampener over it.
Built for quad and side-by-side bumper mounts on the 76.2 x 124 mm pattern. Get in touch if you need the rope material confirmed before ordering.
