Most people stall at the same point when adding driving lights: the only obvious mounting spot means drilling holes in a bumper that cost real money. This bracket sidesteps that by using the number plate bolts that are already there.
One bracket doing two jobs
The plate bolts to the bracket, the bracket bolts to the existing plate mounting points, and a bar across the top carries the lights. Anything with bottom mounting screws will sit on it — auxiliary lights, fog lights, driving lights, LED work lights and light bars. Smaller side-mounted lights may need their own extra brackets to attach. The supplier describes the assembly as firm enough that neither the lights nor the plate flutters at speed.
Finish chosen for the front of a car
The bracket is finished with an electrostatic painting process, which the supplier describes as resisting oxidation and corrosion. The bumper line is the worst place on a vehicle for bare metal: stone chips, insect strike, coastal salt and a pressure washer every few weeks. A coating that stays put is the difference between a bracket that stays tidy and one that weeps rust down the plate.
Key features
- No drilling: mounts through the existing number plate holes on most cars, utes, SUVs, trucks and 4WDs.
- Takes bottom-screw lights: suits the stud-and-nut mounting used by most light bars and driving lights.
- Electrostatic painted finish: for oxidation and corrosion resistance at the front of the vehicle.
- Reversible: unbolt it and the plate goes back to standard with no trace on the bumper.
Specifications
- Mounting: existing front number plate bolt holes
- Light compatibility: lights and lamps with bottom mounting screws
- Finish: electrostatic painted
- Material, dimensions, weight limit and quantity supplied: not published by the supplier
Before you fit these
- The number plate must stay clearly visible and readable once lights are mounted above it. Confirm the plate positioning and visibility requirements that apply in your state before fitting for road use.
- Driving lights and light bars carry their own requirements for positioning, covers and wiring. Check those against your vehicle before the lights go on.
- The supplier publishes no load rating or dimensions for the bracket, so match it against the weight and mounting width of your lights, and inspect the bolts after the first few hundred kilometres of corrugations.
- Lights mounted this low sit in the path of stones and water crossings. Route and secure the wiring where it will not chafe.
A tidy way to mount a light bar up front without putting a drill bit through the bumper.
