Standard high beam on a dirt road tends to give out right about where you'd want to be reading the next corner. A combo bar splits the job: the spot section throws down the track, the flood section opens up the verge, so the roo standing in the scrub is lit well before it decides to move.

Two beam angles in one housing

Spot optics run at 30 degrees, flood at 60, and the 5D lens profile is shaped to push light forward rather than let it wash out sideways. For the 20-inch bar the supplier quotes 45,294 candela peak and 1 lux still measurable at 550 metres — that is a reach figure, not a measure of how much usable light lands at the far end. The emitters are Osram OSLON Black 3 W units, 42 of them, at 5700 K. The face plate is cast A360 aluminium bolted to an extruded heat sink, because a bar this dense makes real heat.

Which of the two lengths to order

Two sizes are listed: 20 inch at 126 W and 23 inch at 144 W. Every published figure — lumens, current draw, LED count, weight — belongs to the 20-inch bar. No separate numbers have been supplied for the 23-inch, so treat its output and draw as unpublished rather than assuming they scale with the extra wattage. Measure your bull bar tabs or roof rack spacing before choosing, since three inches decides whether a bar clears the mounts or not.

Before you fit these

• Requirements for light bars cover positioning, covers and wiring. Confirm what applies to your vehicle and your state before using one on road.

• Supplied without a loom, so have a harness on hand before you start the install.
