Tail lights on a working trailer live a rough life. Corrugations shake the fittings loose, water finds its way past tired seals, and the first you know about a dead lamp is someone flashing you on the highway. A sealed round unit replaces the whole assembly rather than patching it.
Two brightness levels off two wires
Each lamp runs three wires: black to earth, red for high brightness and green for low. That lets one lamp do two jobs — green fed from the park circuit for a steady tail light, red from the stop circuit so the lamp jumps to full output when the brakes come on. The step between the two levels is what a following driver reads as braking, so wiring both matters more than raw output.
Sealed at the ring, where these usually fail
Sixteen LED chips sit behind the lens, and the whole unit drops into a round hole with a rubber grommet around its edge. The grommet isolates the lamp from panel vibration, which is what kills solder joints on a corrugated track, and seals the gap that would otherwise let water and dust in behind the lens. The supplier rates the unit IP66 — heavy rain and pressure washing, but not submersion.
Key features
- Supplied as a pair: enough to do both sides of a trailer or truck body in one go.
- Dual-brightness wiring: one lamp serves as both tail and stop light.
- Grommet mounting: pushes into a round hole with no separate gasket or mounting screws.
- 16 LED chips per lamp: instant strike, with no filament to shake apart.

Before you fit these
- These are 24 V lamps. The supplier's list of suitable vehicles includes utes and light trailers, which usually run 12 V. Check your system voltage before ordering.
- The supplier does not publish a diameter, and grommet-mount lamps only seal in a hole cut to the right size. Measure your existing opening and ask us before ordering if it is a retrofit.
- IP66 covers rain and washing, not immersion. These are not suited to a boat trailer that goes under at the ramp.
- Rear lighting has requirements for colour, position and height. Confirm what applies to your vehicle or trailer and in your state before fitting for road use.
- Run a clean earth to the black wire. Most intermittent trailer lighting faults are earth faults, not lamp faults.
A straightforward replacement for tired round tail lamps on a truck body or heavy trailer, provided voltage and hole size line up.
