Dropping a gearbox on your own is a juggling act — one hand on the bellhousing bolts, the other trying to stop the box from swinging. An under-hoist stand takes that weight instead. This one is a threaded steel post on a tripod base, adjustable between 1.1 and 1.8 m, rated by the supplier at 750 kg.
A prop, not a jack
The distinction matters. A stand like this is designed to take the weight of a component — an exhaust section, a subframe, a gearbox — while the vehicle itself is already held up by a hoist or a set of rated stands. It is not a lifting device, and the 750 kg figure is not a licence to raise anything with it. Height is set with an ACME-threaded screw, the same square-profile thread used on machine vices because it drives load along the axis without trying to unwind itself, and a non-slip saddle pad sits between the post and the part.
Seventy centimetres of adjustment on a tripod foot
Range runs from 1.1 m closed to 1.8 m fully out — 43.3 to 70.9 inches — which covers a vehicle sitting low on a two-post hoist through to one lifted for full underbody access. The base is a tripod rather than four legs, and that is deliberate: three feet always sit flat, so a patched or sloping workshop floor does not leave the post rocking on a high corner. Construction is steel throughout with a powder-coated finish, which is the part that keeps a stand living in a wash bay from rusting at the thread.
Key features
- Supplier rating of 750 kg: stated as 750 kg / 1650 lb, described by the supplier as 3/4 ton, for one stand.
- ACME-threaded adjustment: a square-profile thread that carries load along its axis and does not back off on its own.
- 1.1 m to 1.8 m range: reaches from a low hoist setting up to full underbody clearance.
- Tripod base: three feet find their own level on an uneven or patched workshop floor.
- Non-slip saddle pad: grips the component and keeps steel off painted or plated surfaces.
- Powder-coated steel: the finish is what stops the thread seizing up on a stand that lives near a wash bay.

How to use this safely
- This is a support stand, not a jack and not a vehicle stand. The vehicle must already be held up by a hoist or by rated vehicle stands before this post goes anywhere near it.
- Never rely on a jack of any kind to hold a vehicle while you are under it. Raise it, then transfer the weight onto rated stands and confirm they are taking it.
- The 750 kg figure applies to a single stand. Do not add ratings together across two stands to justify a heavier component.
- Wind the post up to meet the component rather than trying to lift with it, and set the tripod on firm level floor, not on a ramp or a drain grate.
- No standard, certification or test rating is named by the supplier for this stand.
A useful third hand for exhaust, driveline and suspension work. Set it up as a prop under a vehicle that is already properly supported, and it will hold a component steady while you undo the last bolt.
