Engine Stand 450KG

An engine on a pallet is an engine you work around, on your knees, rolling it with a mate every time the other side needs attention. Bolted to a stand it turns to whatever angle the job wants: sump off, timing cover at chest height, everything within reach of one pair of hands.

450 kg carried on an H-shaped base

The supplier rates the stand at 450 kg (1,000 lb), quoted for the stand as a whole. That covers most four and six-cylinder blocks and plenty of V8s stripped of ancillaries, but weigh what you are hanging before committing, because a fully dressed diesel long motor can surprise you. The base is an H pattern rather than the older T, setting the outer legs wider apart and pushing the tipping point further from the mounting head. That geometry is the whole reason this style exists.

Turning a heavy block under control

Four adjustable arms bolt to the bellhousing face, and the head rotates through 360 degrees on a 14 inch handle. Because those arms slide, one stand suits a range of bolt patterns instead of a single engine family. Four castors move it around the shed. The steel is powder coated, which keeps surface rust off during the months a project sits half finished, and at 23 kg it is light enough to stand upright in a corner.

Before you mount a block

• An engine stand holds a block. It is not a jack, a hoist or an axle stand, and it must never be used to support a vehicle.
• Bolt all four arms up and rotate slowly. An off-centre block builds momentum quickly.
• The 450 kg (1,000 lb) rating is quoted for a single stand. Weigh a dressed long motor first.
• Two styles are offered above. Supplier documentation covers one configuration only, so check the images for the style you pick.

A stand pays for itself the first time you strip a motor alone. Castors and plate ship separate, so check every fastener before the first engine goes on.
