A parking ticket, a phone and a pair of sunglasses all end up loose on the console lid, and the first hard stop sends the lot into the passenger footwell where the seat rail keeps them. This is a padded armrest cover with a pocket down each side to catch them. It should be said straight away that the title begins "Car Key Box" and the product is nothing of the sort.
An armrest cover, mislabelled at source
Nothing in the supplier's description mentions keys, a key tray or a lock. It describes a mat that lies over the centre console between the two front seats, shielding the lid from dust and wear, lined underneath with sponge so an elbow has something soft to rest on. The "Car Key Box" prefix appears to be a feed error carried across a whole range. Take the description as the product and the first three words of the title as noise.
Side pockets, and a tissue slot
Large pockets run down the sides of the cover - the supplier's phrasing - so small flat items sit within reach of either front occupant instead of skating about on the lid. It will also hold a packet of tissues, which the supplier calls out separately. Neither pocket has a stated depth, width or capacity, so photographs are your only guide to what will actually go in.
The measurement arrived broken
The supplier data gives the size as "35208cm". Its separators have been stripped somewhere between their system and ours, and there is more than one plausible way to put them back, so we are not going to guess and print a figure that might be wrong. Treat 35 cm as the only part of it you can lean on and measure your own console lid before ordering. The mangled dimension has been flagged for correction at source.
It must not stop the lid closing
An armrest cover sits on top of a lid that opens, beside controls that have to move. Before settling it in place, open and shut the console lid with the cover on and confirm it latches properly rather than merely resting shut. Then check the handbrake lever through its full travel, the gear selector through every position, and any switch, cup holder or cubby the cover overhangs. A mat that fouls a control is worse than no mat.
Key features
- Sponge lining: padding under the cover, so the console lid is not bare plastic against your elbow.
- Pockets both sides: flat items stay put instead of sliding off the lid.
- Doubles as a tissue holder: the supplier's own second use for it.
- Protects the lid: takes the dust, the wear and the sun instead of the trim underneath.
- Simply lies on: no adhesive, no clips, no tools; lift it off and hose the car out.
Specifications
- Material: leather per the supplier, with a sponge lining; the leather type is not specified
- Colour: black, from the product title; single variant, so nothing is selected at checkout
- Stated size: printed as "35208cm" in the source with its separators lost - see above. We have not reconstructed it
- Pocket dimensions and capacity: not given
- Mounting: none. It rests over the console between the front seats
- Fitment: the supplier says most centre consoles, which is not a measurement. Console shapes differ enormously, so measure yours
- Weight: not published
What's in the box
- 1 x armrest console cover. No liner, insert or fixing kit is listed alongside it.
Checks before it goes on the console
- Confirm the console lid still latches shut with the cover in place.
- Work the handbrake and the gear selector through their full travel and make sure nothing catches.
- Keep the cover, and anything in its pockets, clear of the seat belt buckle stalks on either side.
- Nothing loose and heavy in the pockets: the console sits between two people at chest height.
Measure the lid, then judge the rest on the photographs. The one number the supplier supplied did not survive the trip.
