Giantz Window Tint Film Black Roll - Car, Home & Commercial Glass Tinting

This film is sold in three darkness grades, and the darker ones in the range — the 5% and the 15% VLT films — are not legal on the front side windows of a car anywhere in Australia. Every state and territory sets its own minimum for how much light has to pass through, the minimum changes with which window you are covering, and only your own state or territory road authority can tell you what applies to your vehicle. Settle it with them before the film comes off the roll: this is the sort of thing that surfaces at the roadworthy inspection you have not booked yet, and the remedy then is stripping it off and starting again.

Sixteen variants, one of them described

The supplier's description covers a single configuration — 15% VLT, a 152cm by 30m roll, film only — while the store lists sixteen variants. Three things vary: the darkness grade (5%, 15% or 35% VLT), the roll (152cm by 30m, 100cm by 30m, or 76cm by 7m, width first), and whether a tools kit comes with it. So the "30m in length" line is wrong for the six 76cm rolls, which are 7m, and the 5% grade is not stocked in the 152cm width at all.

The numbers on the spec sheet, and what stands behind them

The listing prints 99% UV resistance and 60% solar energy rejected, alongside heat insulation and reduced fading. No standard is cited, no test house and no method. Those figures sit under the 15% specification while the store also sells 5% and 35%, and three grades cannot perform identically. Thickness is given as "2 mil 2 layer", where mil means thousandths of an inch, not millimetres — the source never says so, and we are not converting it.

Before this film comes off the roll

• The legal check is yours to make: limits differ by state and territory and by which window is being covered, with front side windows, rear side windows, the rear screen and the windscreen all treated differently. Your state or territory road authority is the only source that binds, and we are not it.
• The darker grades and road use: the 5% and 15% films cannot legally go on the front side windows of a car in any Australian state or territory. If the vehicle is registered and driven on a road, that rules those grades out for that position, whatever else you use them for.
• No application instructions: the description promises "5 easy steps to apply" and then lists none. There is no cure time, no note about which glass suits the film, and no warning about rear defroster lines.
• Performance figures are unattributed: the 99% and the 60% are printed against the 15% film with no test method, and no equivalent figures are given for the 5% or 35% grades.
• "2 mil" is not 2mm: mil is a thousandth of an inch. An Australian reader can very reasonably read it the other way, and the source never clarifies which is meant.
• Fifteen variants go undescribed: everything the supplier wrote applies to one of the sixteen purchasable combinations.
• One combination cannot be bought: 5% VLT in the 152cm x 30m size is not stocked in either bundle, though the option picker will let you select it.
• The brand is a title claim: the description names no brand at all. Giantz is a title-only name, absent from every line of supplier data.
• Film type and warranty are absent: dyed, metallised or ceramic is never stated, and neither is the adhesive type or any warranty period.
• Stored text defect: the colour line reads "Colur : Black". The letter o has been dropped from Colour and a space has been inserted before the colon — two defects of opposite kinds in one short field. We have not reconstructed either.

Choose the grade for the window you are actually covering, and put the legal question to your road authority first rather than after the fact. If the glass is in a house or a shopfront rather than a vehicle, the road rules above are not the ones that govern it.
